UNT, TWU to collaborate, build new partnerships

President V. Lane RawlinsFeb. 21, 2013

To the UNT community,

We are pleased to announce a new initiative to partner with Texas Woman’s University. At this early juncture, we are exploring opportunities that would improve the educational environment for the students, faculty and staff members at both universities, increasing the value of the educational experience and the effectiveness of each institution.

We are beginning from a base of existing collaborations between UNT and TWU in which faculty already are working together in academic areas in research and creative endeavors. We seek to extend these existing collaborations and find new ways for our universities to partner.

For guidance, we are looking at collaborations among institutions across the nation, such as the Five College Consortium in western Massachusetts and the University Partnership Center at the University of Florida. However, we also recognize that our unique universities will develop “unique” partnerships.

Dr. Jim Poirot, UNT Regents Professor of learning technologies and executive director of the Texas Center for Educational Technology, and Dr. Don Edwards, associate dean of the TWU College of Arts and Sciences and chair of the department of mathematics, will work together with the provosts of the two institutions to identify and turn the ideas for collaboration into reality.

We encourage you to reach out to Dr. Poirot and Dr. Edwards with ideas. And we look forward to what this new partnership may create.
