Two Mean Green teams are headed for NCAA playoffs after capturing Sun Belt Conference titles.
The tennis team plays the University of Nebraska May 11 in the Austin regional. The team won the Sun Belt Conference championship April 29 with a win over Florida International University at Waranch Tennis Center.
This is the second title for the Mean Green. The team finished 18-6 in conference play, and won 75 percent of its matches – the second best in school history.
Head Coach Sujay Lama, left, was named Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year. He also became the winningest coach in UNT history April 15, when the team defeated Troy University.
Meanwhile, over in Muscle Shoals, Ala., the men’s golf team and Head Coach Brad Stracke, right, won the 2012 Sun Belt Conference title. The team completed the tournament April 25 with a seven stroke win over second place Middle Tennessee State. Junior Ty Spinella won the individual title.
The championship was UNT’s 23rd conference title. UNT will play in the Bowling Green, Ky., regional tournament May 17-19.
