About 4,200 students arrived on campus Aug. 22 for the annual Sunday Fun Day move-in. The number represents 80 percent of residence hall dwellers, said James Fairchild Jr., residence life coordinator.
The annual event attracts students, parents and friends, who arrive with a room-full of essentials - laptops, MP3 players, clothing, a favorite pillow and a textbook or two - for the fall semester.
Fairchild said an estimated 700 volunteers annually assist with the massive student arrival. About 150 faculty and staff, plus student volunteers from campus groups are available to welcome, give directions and lift a box.
Faculty and staff received a Mean Green move in specialist T-shirt, and enjoyed lunch, above, as a reward for welcoming residence hall dwellers to the new academic year. Classes begin Aug. 26.
