J. Roy Moses Jr., 83, died May 5 in Kerrville. He was a member of the journalism faculty from 1972 to 1997, when he retired as an assistant professor.
He was named to the C.E. Shuford Hall of Honor in UNT’s journalism department in 1996.
Moses spent several years advising the college newspaper before becoming a full-time professor. Moses worked for several Texas newspapers, and served as the director of journalism for the University Interscholastic League at the University of Texas.
He received the Order of the Golden Quill from the Interscholastic League Press Conference in 1977. Moses was cited for his "great service ... and contributions to journalilsm education in Texas."
He also was affiliated with Schriener Institute, Southwest Texas State, the University of Texas at Arlington and Michigan Technological University.
Moses served in the U.S. Army from 1950 until 1952.
Moses received degres from Southwestern University and the University of Texas at Austin.
Survivors include wife, Krispen Moses and family members.
