Tammy Sprabary, campus information operator supervisor
Posted by: Michelle Hale

You can call Tammy Sprabary, campus information operator supervisor, and her coworkers any weekday between 7:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. to receive fast, accurate campus information. But please don’t call her between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Mondays, when this avid fan is breathlessly following each minute of the action on the television show 24.

  1. What is your title and department?
Campus Information Operator Supervisor in the Office of Telecommunications, which is part of the Computing and Information Technologies Center.

  2. How long have you worked at UNT?
    15 years.

  3. How do you define success?
Being the best person you can be; living the best life you can live.

  4. What’s the most common question asked by the people who call the university switchboard line?
It’s variations of “when”… when can I register?… when is the last day to drop?… when is my tuition due?

  5. What’s the strangest question you’ve ever been asked by a caller?
It wasn’t a question, but more of a statement. A caller once stated to me, “I’ve got a room to rent. My wife just left me.” I don’t know if he was trying to fill the space before she got back or what, but it’s one of the many “different” calls we receive.

  6. What is your hometown?  What do you like about it?
My hometown is Denton. I like that it still has a small town feeling despite how much it has grown.

  7. How do you spend your free time? Hobbies, volunteer work, etc.
I fill my free time with church and church activities, going out with friends and listening to music. I also try and keep up with a lot of shows on TV.

  8. What makes you a fan of 24?
24 always takes off right out of the gate and it never loses momentum — you don’t have to wait for a build up. I also enjoy the great cast and the plot itself.

  9. Tell us about your pets (how many you have, what kind they are, the funniest thing they do):
I have three Chihuahuas named Puddin’, Truman and Bailey. Pud thinks that if she smiles at you, she’ll get her way or won’t get into trouble. Truman is missing the tip of one of his ears and has a crooked mouth and Bailey is top heavy. They’re all little clowns. The four of us also live with a cat, Crissy.

  10. Describe your ideal weekend.  What would you do?
I’m simple really. My ideal weekend would be to do nothing and spend time with friends.
