DiPaolo to supervise information technology services

Michael DiPaolo, UNT System CIOMichael Di Paolo, left, an industry veteran in IT operations, strategy and planning, governance, service management, project management, business application solutions and shared services, has been named associate vice chancellor and chief information officer for the UNT System.

In his new role, DiPaolo oversees and is accountable for the successful delivery of information technology services for each member institution - UNT, UNT Health Science Center, UNT Dallas and UNT System administration.

He is responsible for the system-wide consolidation of information technology operations into a shared services model. The IT shared service model will allow the UNT System to meet new needs without having to increase staff, to standardize IT business processes and reduce costs through improving efficiency.

“Michael emerged from a national search and offered professional experiences, a skill set and temperament that unquestionably aligned with what we are trying to create in the UNT System,” said Terry Pankratz, right, vice chancellor for Finance and leader of the system’s shared services implementation.

Terry Pankratz, UNT System“Effective IT governance is critical in higher education, and in today’s tight financial times, developing cost effective operations by leveraging our investments across the entire system and eliminating unnecessarily redundant technologies is paramount.

"Michael’s experiences and his consultative approach to leadership will allow him to unite the UNT System IT professionals to successfully develop IT solutions that continue to move the UNT System Institutions forward. I have given Michael a monumental task to accomplish, and I am confident he will be successful.”

As chief information officer of the system, DiPaolo also serves as a member of the Chancellor’s cabinet, and provides leadership and policy direction to the chief information officers on each campus. He also represents the UNT System at the state and national level on IT related matters and leads the development and implementation of the system IT Strategic Plan.

“These are exciting times for the UNT System,” DiPaolo said. “We have the opportunity to develop something never before accomplished by a university system: the comprehensive sharing of technology planning, systems and support across all campuses. I am looking forward to working with campus leadership as well as IT leadership to craft solutions that meet needs for flexibility, service delivery and thought leadership.”

Prior to joining the UNT System, Di Paolo was risk advisory director for Webb Watch Corporation. Di Paolo also has served as the chief information officer for the City of Fort Worth and spent 11 years working in information technology at Florida State University.

Di Paolo holds a bachelor and master of science degree from Florida State University.
